TIMELINE

In June 1979, CICG established a training course for its cadres, which served as the precursor to the CICG Institute of International Studies and Advanced Training. 

In November 1981, the Blossom Press was formally established.

In November 1981, the China Book Import Center, affiliated with the International Bookstore, was established and began to accept domestic orders and conduct import business. 

In 1981, China Literature magazine compiled and published the Panda Books translation series. Through the series, more than 190 titles of ancient Chinese literary classics and contemporary works were translated and published, including the "Selections from the 'Book of Songs'," "The Three Kingdoms," "Pilgrimage to the West" and "Selected Tales of Liaozhai." These works were distributed to more than 150 countries and regions. 

In June 1982, the Translators Association of China was established under the administration of CICG. 

In January 1985, Cypress Books was established in the U.K..

In April 1985, China Reconstructs held a reception in the Great Hall of the People to celebrate the 70th birthday of CICG's senior expert and the magazine's Editor-in-Chief Israel Epstein and his 50 years of working in China. Deng Xiaoping and Deng Yingchao attended the reception, and the latter presented flowers to Epstein and addressed the event. Prior to the reception, Deng Xiaoping met with former CICG President Fan Jingyi and the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China Reconstructs Zhang Yan. 

In July 1986, CICG organized the 71st World Esperanto Congress in Beijing, which was attended by more than 2,000 Esperanto speakers from 53 countries and regions.  

In October 1987, the first issue of the monthly magazine ChinaAfrica was published in English and French. 

In November 1987, CICG held the first Foreign-language Book Exhibition in Beijing, displaying more than 5,000 works. This was the largest exhibition of books and periodicals ever held by CICG in Beijing.
