Liquor and Long March memories: International guests uncover red history by the Chishui River in Maotai town

On June 28, Chinese and foreign guests taking part in the "Together on the Long March" CICG International Communication Project visited Maotai town, Guizhou province, to explore the extraordinary years when the Red Army made the third crossing of the Chishui River.

In March 1935, the Red Army stationed in Maotai Town. Short of medicine and medical supplies, soldiers used local liquor to disinfect wounds and soothe fatigue after long marches. This precious liquor saved countless lives, forging a profound bond between the army and local people along the Chishui River.

From wartime medicinal liquor to world-famous spirits, from the brilliant military strategy of the Four Crossings of the Chishui River to booming red tourism, Maotai town preserves the Long March spirit passed down from generation to generation, and shows the striking blend of history and modern development.
