To commemorate the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March, the Seminar on Mao Zedong's Military Strategy & Tactics during the Long March was held Saturday at the Four Crossings of the Chishui River Memorial in Zunyi city of southwestern China's Guizhou province.

More than 80 Chinese and international guests from the U.S., the U.K., Belgium, the Netherlands, Vietnam, India, and other countries attended the event.

The seminar focused on the Four Crossings of the Chishui River campaign, a decisive operation in 1935 that enabled the Red Army to seize the strategic initiative against overwhelming odds. Through firsthand accounts and reflections shared by Chinese and international speakers, the event highlighted the campaign's strategic significance and the courage embodied by the Long March.

The seminar was guided by China International Communications Group (CICG), and jointly organized by the Center for Europe and Asia under CICG and the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Guizhou Provincial Committee. It is part of CICG's Long March-themed international communication project.

Xie Gang, vice president of CICG, delivered remarks at the seminar. He said that the spirit of the Long March belongs not only to China, but transcends cultures and languages and resonates with people around the world. By launching the international communication project, CICG aims to present a credible, appealing, and respectable China to global audience through vivid stories, authentic experiences, and compelling images. Xie said he hopes the seminar will inspire participants to appreciate history through firsthand experiences and deepen mutual understanding through dialogue.

William N. Brown, a professor at Xiamen University and a recipient of the Chinese Government Friendship Award, said the Four Crossings of the Chishui River campaign offers more than a lesson in history, but reveals a way of thinking — one that seeks hope in adversity, creates opportunities amid changes, and opens new paths in the face of challenges.

During the event, several publications about the Long March by the New World Press under CICG were presented to the Chinese and international guests.
