China International Book Trading Corporation
The China International Book Trading Corporation (CIBTC) is China's first book import and export agency and largest trading company of books in professional fields, as well as one of the country's leading forces in book exports. CIBTC was formerly known as the International Bookstore when it was established in 1949, and has now grown into a large-scale state-owned cultural conglomerate with a diverse range of businesses.
In addition to its core business of book imports and exports, CIBTC also engages in paper-related trading, warehouse storage and logistic services, property management, e-commerce, capital operation, cultural communication, cultural industry research, exhibitions, and copyright trading. It has published some 1.5 billion Chinese books and magazines in over 40 languages for readers in more than 180 countries and regions. CIBTC has participated in or held international book fairs in over 100 countries and regions, and maintained business cooperation and contact with thousands of overseas publishing institutions, bookstores, publishers as well as millions of readers.
The corporation is also responsible for the operation of key national cultural export projects and emerging platforms. These include China Books, an online bookstore on Amazon, an overseas distribution and service platform for digital newspapers, a cross-border e-commerce export service platform for Chinese cultural products, the project to expand libraries in countries along the route of the Belt and Road Initiative, the "Walking with 'Made in China'" project and the China International Virtual Library.
Companies affiliated to CIBTC include Beijing Foreign Language Printing, Beijing Foreign Language Publishing Paper Company and Beijing Zhixin Hengyuan Capital Management. It has subsidiaries in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, as well as 12 overseas institutions including Cypress Books in the United Kingdom.
