This book, co-authored by Chai Jianhong and Liu Jinbao, both renowned Dunhuangologists, introduces to general readers the history and culture of Dunhuang, a city in northwestern China. With 45 precious historical photos and beautiful HD mural paintings as well as a list of institutions with the collection of Dunhuang literature provided by the Dunhuang Resource Center of the National Library of China, the book offers an authoritative interpretation of the city's over 1,650 years of history, the building of the Mogao Caves, the discovery of the Library Cave and the loss of its treasures, and the murals and colored sculptures in the grottos of Dunhuang. It is concisely informative and considerately practical with artistic originality.
