Former French PM Laurent Fabius visits CICG

On Sept. 4, Chang Bo, president of China International Communications Group (CICG), met with Laurent Fabius, chair of the Circle of COP Presidents and former French prime minister, and his delegation in Beijing. Yu Yunquan, vice president of CICG; Li Yafang, deputy editor-in-chief of CICG and president of the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies (ACCWS); and representatives from CICG's Department of International Cooperation and ACCWS attended the meeting.

Chang welcomed Fabius and expressed appreciation for his longstanding contributions to China-France friendship and global climate cooperation. He said China and France are important partners in upholding multilateralism and improving global governance, and have maintained close communication and cooperation in areas including climate change in recent years. CICG will continue to host the China-France forum on global governance, strengthen joint research on global governance, promote exchanges and mutual learning between civilizations, and expand youth exchanges. Through these efforts, CICG seeks to deepen international understanding of global climate cooperation and contribute to stronger China-France cooperation on climate change and people-to-people exchanges, Chang said.

Fabius said climate change is a vital issue concerning humanity's future, adding that China and France share common ground in addressing the challenge. He stressed the importance of raising public awareness worldwide about climate change, saying this will help the public better understand the realities surrounding the issue and build confidence in global climate action. He praised CICG's efforts in promoting global exchanges in governance experience and expressed hope for closer cooperation with CICG to encourage more countries, institutions, and individuals to take part in global climate governance.

During his visit, Fabius also attended a China-France seminar on global climate governance hosted by ACCWS, where he exchanged views with Chinese experts on related issues.
