CICG holds 'China Day' event at 111th World Esperanto Congress

The 111th World Esperanto Congress kicked off on Aug. 2 in Graz, Austria, bringing together 1,128 delegates from 62 countries and regions. Yu Tao, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG) and a council member of the Universal Esperanto Association (UEA), headed the Chinese Esperanto delegation to the congress.

During the congress, Yu also presided over the "China Day" event, which was guided by the UEA and CICG, and hosted by the China Esperanto League and the CICG Asia-Pacific. Nearly 100 Esperantists from more than 20 countries attended the event.

In his speech, Yu noted that Esperanto plays a unique role in contemporary international exchanges. As the supervising authority of the China Esperanto League, CICG is ready to deepen cooperation with the UEA and national Esperanto organizations worldwide. CICG aims to build bridges for people-to-people connectivity, rally global volunteer forces via Esperanto, advance sustainable development, and promote dialogue, mutual learning, and shared prosperity among civilizations worldwide, Yu said.

UEA President Fernando Maia praised the "China Day" event and commended Chinese Esperantists' long-standing contributions to the international Esperanto movement. 

International delegates spoke highly of the "China Day" and called for more such exchanges to strengthen friendship among Esperantists worldwide.

During the event, the Chinese Esperanto delegation also hosted a photo exhibition marking the 55th anniversary of China-Austria diplomatic ties and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the China Esperanto League. The Esperanto edition of "Keywords to Understand China: Cultural Exchanges" was released. Yu presented CICG's Esperanto publications to the UEA and the Esperanto Museum of the Austrian National Library.
