2026 China-US dialogue concludes with vision for future cooperation

The closing ceremony of the 2026 "Across the Pacific: China-U.S. Youth Dialogue for a Shared Future" program was held in Beijing on Thursday, marking the successful conclusion of a 21-day cross-cultural journey co-hosted by the Center for the Americas of China International Communications Group (CICG) and the China-America Student Conference.

Addressing the event, Yu Tao, vice president of CICG, underscored that young people represent the future of China-U.S. relations and serve as an essential bridge to deepen mutual understanding, eliminate prejudice and build consensus. He encouraged youth from both nations to uphold inclusiveness, rationality and win-win cooperation, leveraging their vitality to drive a constructive and strategically stable bilateral relationship.

Xin Feng, president of the CICG Center for the Americas, emphasized that the initiative directly aligns with the key consensus reached by the leaders of both nations. Through heart-to-heart connections, the youth delegates have built a bridge for constructive strategic stability and laid a solid foundation of public support for bilateral ties. He urged delegates to leverage their personal stories to dismantle misunderstandings, encouraging them to actively bridge cultural divides and inspire more people to walk together toward a shared future.

The momentum of consensus-building continued as representatives from both sides and academic experts shared their perspectives on the enduring value of youth exchange.

Han Shen Lin, special representative of the International Student Conferences, noted that the bonds cultivated throughout this immersive program provide an indispensable cornerstone for the long-term personal and professional growth of participants. 

Zhao Hai, director of the International Politics Program at the National Institute for Global Strategy, China Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a keynote address on "China-U.S. Exchanges," urging youth to step up communication in addressing shared global challenges, including climate change, AI governance and geopolitical frictions.

During the ceremony, 22 university delegates from China and the U.S. presented joint research findings across three key tracks: agricultural and rural development, technological innovation, and cross-cultural communication. Participants found that the two countries face similar challenges in agricultural climate resilience and AI integration in education.

China-America Student Conference chairs Li Liao and Erik Larson also made remarks. Li emphasized that face-to-face dialogue allowed the delegates to step beyond stereotypes. Larson stressed that the ceremony marks not a finish line, but a new starting point for ongoing collaboration, expressing optimism for the future of bilateral relations.

The three-week immersive initiative, spanning from July 3 to 23, took delegates across diverse landscapes in China and the United States to gain firsthand observation of rural development, ecological conservation and cutting-edge tech hubs.
