The fifth ASEAN-China "Friendship and Cooperation" Short Video Contest concluded on Thursday with an awards ceremony in Nanning, the capital of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, where organizers also launched a new digital micro-drama initiative aimed at deepening cultural exchanges between China and ASEAN countries.

More than 150 guests attended the event, including diplomats from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam, representatives from Beijing's ASEAN-China Centre, media professionals, university and business delegates, award winners, and young people from China and ASEAN countries.

The new ASEAN-China Digital & Intelligent Creation and Communication Program for Micro-Dramas was unveiled during the ceremony. Open to creators from participating countries, the initiative encourages the use of artificial intelligence-generated content throughout the creative process to promote innovation in regional cultural production.

Launched in December 2025, this year's short video contest attracted 8,774 entries. Winning creators from China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand received awards at the ceremony.

Chang Bo, president of China International Communications Group, said the contest had become an important platform for promoting people-to-people exchanges between China and ASEAN, adding that stronger youth engagement would help deepen mutual understanding and friendship across the region.

San Lwin, deputy secretary-general of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, said ASEAN is committed to building an inclusive, people-centered, and digitally connected community. He said the contest brings together creators across borders and contributes to building a shared future.

Founded in 2020, the annual contest has received more than 90,000 video submissions, generating over 100 million online views and nearly 3 billion topic views on social media, making it a major platform for showcasing China-ASEAN cooperation and strengthening cultural exchanges.
