The book, originally written in English, was published in 1996 during Anwar's tenure as Malaysia's deputy prime minister, and consists of nine chapters systematically elaborating on his profound reflections on national governance and Asian development from the perspectives of culture, society, politics, the economy, ethics, religion, etc.
He emphasizes in the book that Asian societies and cultures possess unique characteristics, and Asian countries should adhere to development paths suited to their own national conditions instead of blindly following the West. He also advocates for Asian countries to seek common ground and forge shared values while reserving differences in cultural exchanges.
This work, which embodies the essence of Anwar's thinking, remains insightful and enlightening today. The publication of its Chinese edition represents a new cultural achievement of China's and Malaysia's efforts to promote mutual learning and further development of Asian civilizations.
Born in August 1947, Anwar Ibrahim entered politics in the 1980s and took office as Malaysia's prime minister in November 2022.
