Addressing the ceremony, Yu Tao, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG) and chairman of the China National Committee for Graduate Education of Translation and Interpreting, emphasized that enhancing China's translation capacity and advancing high-quality translation work are essential tasks in supporting the nation's broader agenda of high-level opening up.
He outlined three key directions: build a distinctive Chinese system of international communication to serve national strategies; develop a strong pool of translation professionals to enhance the country's overall translation capacity; and broaden practical applications and bolster up the translation industry's high-quality development.
Yu noted that CICG has long upheld its founding mission and continues to contribute actively to international exchanges, mutual learning among civilizations, and the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.

In his remarks, Zhao Yong, vice president of Dalian University of Foreign Languages, said that translation is not only the art of rendering language, but also a means of conveying ideas and fostering deeper understanding across cultures.
He said, the Han Suyin International Translation Contest is designed with close attention to both disciplinary rigor and contemporary relevance, from the selection of passages to the criteria used in judgement. The competition examines both accuracy in linguistic transformation and depth and breadth in cross-cultural understanding, encouraging contestants to stay alert to evolving social contexts and to engage thoughtfully with the broader dialogue among different cultures and civilizations.
Zhao said he hopes that the young laureates would continue to improve their craft and contribute to China's international engagement with professionalism and a sense of responsibility.
Following the opening speeches, the ceremony continued with the presentation of awards and the handover of the contest flag. Out of more than 31,000 participants, a total of 887 contestants were recognized this year, including 21 first-prize winners. It was also announced that the next edition of the Han Suyin International Translation Contest will be jointly organized by the TAC, the ACCWS, and Soochow University.
