CICG president meets Australian sinologist
Chang Bo, president of China International Communications Group (CICG), met with Harold Weldon, an Australian sinologist and publisher, in Beijing on Tuesday.
Weldon has participated in the publication of several China-themed books and documentaries, including two photobooks about the Long March, an epic and arduous journey undertaken by the Chinese Red Army from 1934 to 1936.
During their meeting, Chang and Weldon held in-depth discussions on the historical background, profound significance, and enduring relevance of the Long March. The CICG president elaborated on the revolutionary spirit forged during this journey, emphasizing that the Long March marked not only a great turning point for the Communist Party of China and the Chinese revolution — from setbacks to ultimate victory — but also a magnificent epic of human spiritual strength.
Weldon agreed that the spirit of the Long March belongs not only to China but to the world, adding that he looks forward to strengthening cooperation with CICG to share this epic story of human perseverance, leadership, and strategic wisdom with global audiences.
Weldon has long been committed to promoting cultural exchanges between China and Australia. In 2017, he received the 11th Special Book Award of China, a top prize in China honoring foreign authors, translators and publishers.
