Thunder of 1937: July 7 Incident & Whole Nation's War of Resistance

In the midnight of July 7, 1937, over the Yongding River on the outskirts of Beijing, then called Beiping, the piercing crack of gunfire abruptly shattered the stillness of the summer night. Under the pretext of a missing soldier, the Japanese army brazenly shelled Wanping Town. This marked the beginning of Japan's long-planned full-scale invasion of China. Following the July 7 Incident, resisting Japanese aggression and striving for national survival became the shared resolve and action of all political parties, ethnic groups, social classes and strata, and organizations in China, as well as overseas Chinese communities. China thus entered the stage of the whole nation's war of resistance and opened the main Eastern battlefield of the World Anti-Fascist War.
