China-Pakistan Think Tank Dialogue 2025 held in Islamabad
The China-Pakistan Think Tank Dialogue 2025 was held in Islamabad on Oct. 19, bringing together experts, diplomats and policymakers from the two countries to discuss modernization and global governance.
The event was jointly organized by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies (ACCWS) under China International Communications Group (CICG) and the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS).

CICG Editor-in-Chief Gao Anming delivered remarks at the event. He said that China and Pakistan, as close and genuine friends, have maintained a high level of development and practical cooperation in their bilateral relationship, and the partnership has become a model of solidarity and mutual benefit among countries of the Global South.
Looking ahead, Gao called on think tanks and media outlets from both countries to better tell the stories of their cooperation in advancing the Global Governance Initiative and pursuing shared progress. He proposed strengthening joint research to elaborate on the China-Pakistan model of global governance cooperation, launching joint publishing projects to share successful cases, and building multilingual communication networks to showcase the achievements of bilateral cooperation.

Shi Yuanqiang, deputy chief of mission at the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, noted that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, political mutual trust between China and Pakistan has continued to deepen, and cooperation has seen solid progress.
He urged both sides to fully implement the consensus reached by their leaders and to uphold five guiding principles: maintaining mutual trust and support, focusing on development and win-win cooperation, prioritizing people's well-being, safeguarding peace and stability, and defending fairness and justice— all to advance the four global initiatives and contribute to building the China-Pakistan community with a shared future.

Masood Khan, former permanent representative of Pakistan to the U.N. and former Pakistani ambassador to China, highlighted that Chinese-style modernization is not self-centered but one that promotes regional integration and shared prosperity through the Belt and Road Initiative. He said the Global Governance Initiative embodies inclusiveness and multilateralism and represents the aspirations of the Global South.
Khan stressed that both China and Pakistan play important roles in promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity. He called for stronger cultural and media exchanges to deepen mutual understanding between the two peoples.
During the dialogue, the ACCWS released the findings of a joint survey on Chinese-style modernization, conducted with the IPDS among people in Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries.
According to the results, 98.2% of respondents recognized China as a dynamic global economic power and supported cooperation projects with China. Over 80% were familiar with the concept of Chinese-style modernization, believing it brings opportunities for regional development. Likewise, more than 80% understood the Shanghai Spirit, recognizing the SCO for its contribution to national development and governance progress. In addition, 97.56% of respondents said they knew about the China-Central Asia community with a shared future and supported China's related initiatives.

The event also gathered more than 20 Pakistani officials and experts from government departments, think tanks, universities, and media organizations for in-depth discussions. Participants recognized the significance of the China-Pakistan partnership, noting that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has been central to Pakistan's modernization and shared development. They also urged the need to further strengthen cooperation in finance and cultural exchange.
During their stay in Islamabad, the CICG delegation also visited key Pakistani institutions, including the Associated Press of Pakistan, the Pakistan-China Institute, the China Study Centre at COMSATS University Islamabad, and the OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation. Both sides held in-depth exchanges on strengthening think tank and media cooperation and deepening friendship between China and Pakistan.
