'Peace and a Shared Future' symposium held in Fukuoka, Japan

CICG, October 24, 2025

The "Peace and a Shared Future" symposium was held on Tuesday in Fukuoka, Japan, bringing together 120 representatives from China and Japan to commemorate history, cherish peace, and explore new ways to strengthen cooperation for regional and global stability and prosperity.

Yu Yingfu, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), and Zhao Baogang, minister counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Japan, attended the symposium and delivered speeches. Former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama delivered a video address. And a written message from former Japanese Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama was read out.

Yu stressed that China, as a major contributor to and defender of the achievements of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, has always advocated the reform and development of the global governance system. He said China and Japan should practice true multilateralism, safeguard regional stability, and promote shared global prosperity.

Yu noted that the Chinese and Japanese economies are deeply intertwined, with a solid foundation for cooperation. The two sides, he said, should deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and advance openness and win–win outcomes. He added that the foundation of bilateral friendship lies among the people, and its future rests with the youth. Efforts should be made to strengthen youth exchanges, enhance mutual understanding, and pool strength for peace, Yu said.

Zhao stressed that from the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence to the Four Global Initiatives, China has always stood firmly on the right side of history and on the side of human progress. China will unswervingly follow the path of peaceful development and work to build a community with a shared future for humanity. He expressed the hope that Japan would work together with China to uphold the positioning of comprehensively advancing the strategic and mutually beneficial relationship, and to take concrete actions to implement the important consensus that the two countries are "partners who pose no threats to each other," jointly safeguarding regional and global peace and stability.

Hatoyama emphasized that China–Japan relations should follow the principles and directions established in the four political documents between the two countries, comprehensively advance the strategic and mutually beneficial relationship, further deepen economic and trade exchanges to consolidate the foundation of mutual interests, and promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges, especially among the youth.

A written message from former Japanese Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama, who passed away on Oct. 17, was read at the event. In his message, Murayama stated that building an enduring friendship with China and consolidating peace in Asia represent the right path for advancing Japan's long-term national interests.

The symposium also featured two panel discussions. Eleven experts, scholars, media professionals, and youth representatives from both countries who have long been engaged in China–Japan relations and local exchanges conducted in-depth discussions under two themes — "Facing History, Building Peace" and "Enhancing Understanding, Looking to the Future."
