'Orchids in Bloom' fashion show promotes cultural exchange in Beijing
The "Orchids in Bloom: Sino-Foreign Intangible Cultural Heritage Fashion Show," an international cultural exchange event, was held at the Workshop in 798-751 Park in Beijing on Sept. 7, as part of China International Fashion Week.
The event was supported by the Orchid Awards Secretariat, ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) and UNESCO Chair on World Traditional Handicrafts: Inheritance and Innovation, and co-hosted by International Communication Development (Beijing) Co. Ltd. and the China Fashion Association. It was co-organized by the publicity departments of Chuxiong and Dali prefectures in Yunnan province, Hanzhong in Shaanxi province, Wuzhishan in Hainan province, and Luoyang in Henan province.
Yu Yingfu, vice president of China International Communications Group,and Chatchai Viriyavejakul, Thai ambassador to China, addressed the event.
More than 500 guests attended the event, including diplomats from the embassies of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam in China, officials from international organizations including the ACC, local Chinese officials, as well as representatives from the fashion industry and media. Winner of the Friendship Envoy Award at this year's Orchid Awards Issah Abiola and 15 diplomats took part in the runway show as special guests.
With intangible cultural heritage costumes as its medium, the event aimed to promote cultural exchange and mutual learning among civilizations, and enable the world to better appreciate the charm of China's diverse culture.
