From Sept. 1 to 6, the International Federation of Translators (FIT) convened its council meeting, Statutory Congress, and the XXIII FIT World Congress in Geneva, Switzerland. At the council meeting, delegates reviewed the FIT's special reports and discussed key issues such as membership services, statutory meeting preparations, and strategic planning. Gao presented an overview of the translation industry in China, particularly the progress of AI technologies and their applications. He said the TAC will remain committed to closer cooperation with the FIT and to advancing the global translation profession.

The two-day Statutory Congress covered 13 major and 24 minor agenda items, including amendments to the FIT's statutes, work plans, and financial arrangements. The TAC delegation took part in the deliberations and voting. The congress also elected a new FIT council. Xu Rong, TAC executive council member and editor-in-chief of Foreign Languages Press, was elected vice president of the FIT.

Following the FIT Statutory Congress, the three-day XXIII FIT World Congress was held under the theme "Mastering the Machine: Shaping an Intelligent Future," featuring keynote speeches, thematic forums, seminars, award ceremonies, and an industry exhibition. Gao was invited to chair a thematic forum during the event.

Founded in 1953, the FIT is the world's leading federation of translators' associations, and enjoys the privilege of Category A consultative status with UNESCO. With around 140 member associations across nearly 70 countries and regions, the FIT promotes cross-cultural exchange, advances the professionalization of translation, and safeguards translators' rights and interests. The World Congress of Translation, initiated by the FIT, is held every three years and is the most influential global event in the translation profession. The 24th World Congress of Translation will be hosted in Lima, Peru, in 2028.
