CICG executive attends 2025 Media Cooperation Forum of SCO Countries

The 2025 Media Cooperation Forum of SCO Countries was held in Urumqi, northwestern China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, on Friday. 

With the theme of "Building a Better Home Together for a Prosperous Future," the event brought over 300 representatives from major media outlets, government departments, academic institutions, and enterprises from 26 SCO member states, observer states, and dialogue partners.

Yu Yunquan, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), delivered a keynote speech at the event. He highlighted the growing importance of the SCO as a platform for regional collaboration amid a rapidly changing global landscape. He said that with the rise of new technologies and the growing impact of cultural exchange, the media plays a vital role in connecting people across the world.

Yu called on media organizations in SCO countries to uphold the Shanghai Spirit by enhancing dialogue, building trust, and fostering shared understanding.

He also emphasized the need to tell engaging SCO stories that resonate with audiences through innovative formats like short videos and digital platforms. He called for stronger collaboration in building multilingual, intelligent content platforms tailored to the region so as to help the SCO's voice reach a wider international audience.

Participants at the forum agreed that media organizations across the SCO should take a forward-looking approach, adapt to the evolving media landscape, and work together to communicate the values and goals of SCO cooperation. They underscored the importance of accurate, objective reporting in fostering public trust and highlighting the achievements of regional partnerships.

The forum was co-hosted by People's Daily and the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It featured an opening ceremony, a media dialogue session, and a launch ceremony for a youth cultural exchange program.
