CICG holds seminar on China-Middle East cooperation in Abu Dhabi

A seminar on China-Middle East cooperation under the Global Security Initiative was held by China International Communications Group (CICG) in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), April 30. About 100 experts, scholars, and representatives from China and Arab countries attended the event.

Liu Dawei, vice president of CICG, delivered a speech at the event. He said that the Middle East is a critical region in the global security structure, adding that China has always believed that Middle Eastern affairs should be managed by its own people and that external forces should contribute positively to regional peace. He also highlighted China's commitment to academic exchanges and media cooperation that aim to enhance mutual understanding.

Zhang Yiming, Chinese ambassador to the UAE, spoke on the progress of China's Global Security Initiative in the Middle East, citing the reconciliation between Saudi Arabia and Iran as a key example. He also referenced China's mediation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and emphasized the importance of staying committed to the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security.

Mohamed Al Ali, CEO of the Trends Research & Advisory, noted that the Middle East faces complex security challenges, and said that the Global Security Initiative aligns with the region's fundamental need for stability. He said that China and Arab nations have built solid economic relations under the Belt and Road Initiative, which will pave the way for further cooperation in the field of security.

Experts from China, the UAE, and Egypt agreed that the Global Security Initiative breaks away from Cold War mentality, providing a new framework of security cooperation. They also highlighted China-Arab relations in areas like counterterrorism, cybersecurity, and energy security.

The experts also stressed that young people must play an active role in shaping future security strategies. They proposed expanding cooperation in translation, publishing, and cultural exchange in order to build trust and understanding.

During the seminar, CICG organized a themed book exhibition and gifted books to representatives from the Trends Research & Advisory.
