Seminar on China-Laos cooperation held in Vientiane

A seminar on China-Laos economic and trade cooperation was held in Vientiane, capital of Laos, on Sept. 5, centering on the theme of high-level opening-up and China-Laos community with a shared future.

The event looked into the economic and trade cooperation efforts between the two countries, and helped outline a roadmap for further development of China-Laos economic and trade cooperation.

Du Zhanyuan, president of China International Communications Group (CICG), said in his speech that partnership between China and Laos has brought tangible benefits to people of the two nations, and demonstrated the great prospects of bilateral economic and trade cooperation. He said he hopes China and Laos can make joint efforts to tell stories of friendly exchange between the two countries and increase coordination and cooperation under the frameworks of Lancang-Mekong cooperation and China-ASEAN cooperation.

Malaithong Kommasith, minister of industry and commerce of Laos, said that the event serves as a platform for discussing the new opportunities, directions, and future of China-Laos economic and trade cooperation. He said he hopes the two countries will strengthen policy communication and experience exchange, boost coordination and planning, provide more convenient conditions for business cooperation, and promote the healthy and sustainable development of China-Laos economic and trade relations.

Fang Hong, Chinese ambassador to Laos, said that Laos is a priority partner for China during its process of advancing high-level opening up and also a beneficiary of China's opening-up policy.

Guests at the event weighed in with their insights into China-Laos economic and trade cooperation. They agreed that the two countries should strengthen cooperation in areas such as infrastructure development and people-to-people exchange, and make use of the opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative. 

CICG's subsidiaries Center for Asia-Pacific and Foreign Languages Press organized the event along with Lao institutions.
