Awards ceremony celebrates videos telling China's stories
The awards ceremony of the 2023 "Tell China's Stories" video contest took place in Chengdu, southwestern China's Sichuan province, on Saturday. Over 100 guests attended the event, including representatives from government agencies, educational institutions, and awardees.

Yu Yunquan, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), delivered a speech at the ceremony. He highlighted the contest's role as a vital platform for enhancing international communications and presenting China's global image.
Regarding this year's competition, Yu called for more innovative concepts and creative content. He added that CICG, as the organizing agency, will collaborate with various parties to present compelling stories about China through diverse and targeted methods so that they will reach a broader overseas audience.

Li Xiaojun, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, spoke about Sichuan's efforts to accelerate its development as a key player in opening up to the west.
He encouraged greater participation in the competition to showcase stories about Sichuan and modern Chinese civilization, in order to foster a deeper understanding of the province and the country among the international community.
The 2023 contest received over 6,200 entries from around the world. Following a rigorous selection process that included regional reviews, expert evaluations, online public voting and a national review, 98 video projects were awarded prizes.

Sebastian Valcic, a German awardee of the 2023 contest who lives in Jinan, Shandong province, said that the competition serves as a platform to present the true image of China. It allows expats living in China to share their stories, contributing to a better understanding of the country among global audiences.

The 2024 "Tell China's Stories" video contest, also launched at Saturday's event, will feature a variety of themes, such as natural resources and the Maritime Silk Road.
Through cooperation with local governments, media agencies, think tanks and educational institutions, the contest aims to create new models of collaboration and establish a new pattern for international communications.
