2024 'My China Story' video competition kicks off for submission
"My China Story" International Short Video Competition, starting in 2018, is an annual event sponsored by China International Communications Group (CICG). The competition encourages international content creation teams to create short videos in various languages themed on Chinese stories happening globally and share foreigners' experiences in China and their unique perspectives.
The competition has been held successfully for five consecutive years and has developed into an international brand. It integrates video creation, annual, themed competitions, seminars, product screenings, and the China Story Alliance of Global Creators.

II. Categories and Themes
1. Annual Section:
Heaven of Ice and Snow, City of Charm and Vigor
Harbin, an internet celebrity city known for its diverse cultures and blending of Chinese and Western cultures, will host the 9th Asian Winter Games Harbin in February 2025. This section aims at short videos on various themes related to Harbin by creators from home and abroad, especially those in Harbin and Heilongjiang province.
2. Key Section:
China's Development, Global Opportunities
Designed primarily for the publicity departments of various provinces (as well autonomous regions and municipalities), whether central or local media and also film/TV producers are all welcomed. This section covers short videos featuring topics including cultural heritage, tourism, economic development, civil life, fashion trends, food culture, etc.
3. Enterprise Section:
Outstanding products, Sharing with the Globe
This section particularly fits Chinese enterprises that go global, foreign-funded enterprises in China, and multinational companies associated with China. All the cross-border, cross-cultural, and cross-sectoral stories are expected.
4. We Media Section:
Outstanding products, Sharing with the Globe
Looking for creative international vloggers, YouTubers, online influencers, and MCN teams, this section collects short videos on personal experiences and in-depth observations on China highlighted by cross-cultural topics.
5. University Student:
By the Youth, to the Future
Aiming at cultivating domestic and international student creators in colleges, at home, and abroad, this section looks to encourage more cross-cultural works from youth perspectives.
III. Timetable
Launch Ceremony: June 25, 2024
Submission: June 25 to Sept. 8, 2024
Assessment: Sept. to Oct. 2024
Preparation: November 2024
Award Ceremony: December 2024
IV. Prizes
1. Outstanding Award
20 winners per section, 100 in total. The list of these 100 works will make nominees for all the following awards.
2. Best Video
10 winners per section, 50 in total, which will be selected from the list of the 100 works. The winners for the Annual section will each receive 5,000 yuan of prize, and 3,000 yuan for other sections.
3. Best Foreign Language Videos
This award will select the best videos separately in English, French, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, etc. (depending on the languages participated) from the 100 outstanding works and winners will each be rewarded 3,000 yuan.
4. Best Single Awards
This includes four awards: Best Video Host, Best Videography, Best Video Series, and Best International Communication, selected from the list of outstanding works and with a reward of 3,000 yuan each.
5. The Best Story
The Best Story will be selected from the list of outstanding works, and the winner will be rewarded 20,000 yuan.
6. Outstanding Organization
The award covers all the organizations and institutions to take part in the competition (no limits in awarded numbers).
V. Requirements
1. The entries should meet at least one of the following conditions:
(1) With at least one foreigner in the crew, in any position including host, protagonist or interviewee, director, designer, cameraman or producer, etc.
(2) Being related to cross-cultural communication between China and other countries. All the works should abide by basic rules for international communication in contents and narration.
2. Institutions, studios or individuals are all qualified to participate in the competition. Each institution is allowed to submit up to 20 videos and 5 for each individual participant. For the video series, choose 3 episodes to submit. Each video work is only allowed to participate in one section.
3. No limitations for the genre of videos. For instance, interviews, talk shows, documentaries, vlogs, animations, microfilms and short dramas are all qualified. Each video should be within 10 minutes.
4. No limitations for the languages used in the videos, and English, French, Russian, Spanish, and Arabic are especially encouraged.Both Chinese and English subtitle is required. Video without Chinese and English subtitle might be disqualified.
5. All videos should be positive, any content related to pornography, violence racial discrimination, etc. are disqualified.
6. The resolution of the works should be 1280*720 or above. MPG, MPEG, AVI, MOV, WMV and MP4 are acceptable as video formats.
VI. Submission
1. Log on to www.mychinastory.com, click on the entry on the home page, fill in the registration form and upload the link to your video released online. Afterwards, please email your videos as directly attached or via shared link(s) and password to Baidu or Google Drives to mychinastory@cnmatters.com. Please make sure your link is permanently accessible. The subject of your email should follow this format: "Participant name-Video title-Section". The text should indicate the contact information. (Please make sure the video title in the email should be the same as that in the registration form).
2. It is also qualified for participation if you upload your video to either a personal or company account on Douyin or Kuaishou, and add the hashtag #2024第三只眼看中国 for it.
VII. Rights and interests of participants
1. Participants have the opportunity to be shortlisted for relevant awards and corresponding certificates and/or prizes.
2. Each rewarded team will be invited with one or two representatives to attend the award ceremony, where experts and people from media and platforms will gather and share experiences.
3. The awarded videos stand the chance for massive media exposure during the ceremony.
4. The awarded videos will be presented in the video screening and exhibitions by us at home and abroad.
5. The awarded videos stand the chance to be published in the Chinese-English book named after the competition.
6. Awarded vloggers and teams will be invited to join the China Story Alliance as signed producers of the contest and will participate in the relevant activities and video projects.
7. Outstanding vloggers and teams will be invited to join the organizer's workshop.
