Yu Yunquan, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG) and president of the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies (ACCWS) under CICG, addressed the dialogue. He said that as the UN General Assembly recently adopted a China-proposed resolution to establish the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations, the event reflected the global anticipation for cultural heritage and dialogue.
Yu called for mobilizing various resources to conduct diverse, effective, and innovative cultural exchange activities, based on the principles of equality, mutual learning, dialogue, and inclusiveness. Dialogue among civilizations will play a crucial role in eliminating discrimination and prejudice, enhancing understanding and trust, promoting people-to-people connections, and strengthening solidarity and cooperation, he said.
The attending diplomatic envoys from eight countries including Nepal, Greece and Grenada expressed their gratitude to the event organizers for providing a platform for cultural exchange. The participants expressed hope that China would continue collaborating with other countries to build a global network for dialogue and cooperation among civilizations, and create more platforms for cultural exchange.
This dialogue was a sideline event of the 2024 Strategic Communication Forum, which was held in Fuzhou from June 17-18.
