China, ASEAN eye enhanced ties on emerging industries

The ASEAN (Malaysia)-China Conference on Emerging Industries took place on Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. The event gathered over 300 participants from governments, businesses, and academia in China and Malaysia to discuss new development goals and key areas of cooperation in emerging industries.

Shi Zhongjun, secretary-general of the ASEAN-China Centre, said that China-ASEAN cooperation plays a vital role in promoting regional prosperity, global economic recovery, and world peace. Against the backdrop of ongoing technological revolution and industrial transformation, the development of emerging industries presents significant strategic opportunities for developing countries like China and Malaysia to achieve leapfrog progress in socio-economic development, he said.

Liu Dawei, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), noted in his speech that economic and trade cooperation has served as an important anchor and source of impetus for enhancing China-Malaysia relations. He called for efforts to form broader consensus, enhance practical cooperation in key areas, and establish regular communication mechanisms.

Datuk Hanafi Sakri, deputy secretary general (industry) of the Malaysian Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, said in his speech that the conference provided an opportunity for government officials and business representatives from China and Malaysia to discuss how to deepen cooperation in emerging industries and explore new opportunities. China has been Malaysia's largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years, and Malaysia highly values its friendly relations with China and hopes to establish a more comprehensive economic and trade partnership with China in the future, he said.

Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing said that China and Malaysia have made significant achievements in economic and industrial cooperation over the past 50 years. He said China is committed to working with Malaysia and other ASEAN countries to promote true multilateralism, with an aim to achieve sustainable development and shared prosperity.

In addition, the conference featured a trade and investment promotion event, launch ceremonies for the China-ASEAN Industrial Chain and Supply Chain Alliance and the China-ASEAN Cultural Home Alliance, and three forums on topics of new energy vehicles, next-generation information technology, and cultural and creative industries.
