Du Zhanyuan, president of China International Communications Group (CICG), met with Yasushi Kudo, president of Japanese think tank The Genron NPO and chairman of the Japanese Executive Committee of the Beijing-Tokyo Forum, in Beijing on Monday. They exchanged ideas for the 20th Beijing-Tokyo Forum and the forum's future development.
Du highlighted the successful collaboration between China and Japan in holding the 19th Beijing-Tokyo Forum last year. He expressed gratitude to Kudo and The Genron NPO for their unremitting efforts in improving China-Japan relations. He said he hopes that the 20th Beijing-Tokyo Forum will be more innovative in its approach to engage more participants from both countries, harness their wisdom, and enhance the forum's influence. CICG will continue to promote the forum's development and secure supports from various parties in China, Du added.
Kudo underscored the significant role of the Beijing-Tokyo Forum in fostering China-Japan relations and promoting peace in Asia and beyond. He said that the Japanese side would work with the Chinese counterparts to host this year's forum, aiming to enhance its role as a non-governmental strategic dialogue.
Following the meeting, Gao Anming, editor-in-chief of CICG, engaged in discussions with the Japanese representatives. The two sides reached an initial consensus on the schedule, theme, and public opinion polls for the 20th Beijing-Tokyo Forum.
