Ambassadors discuss China's economic outlook

A roundtable dialogue with a focus on China's economic development and future international economic cooperation was held in Beijing on Friday, featuring in-depth exchange between Chinese government officials, economists, and foreign diplomats.

Wang Gang, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, gave a speech at the event. He said that, after 46 years of reform and opening up, China's economy has integrated deeply with the global market, showcasing unwavering stability and dynamism. The vitality of the country's economy is not just reflected in numbers but is visible in development practices across regions and brings tangible benefits for the people, and these are the rationale behind the steady and enduring progress of China's economy, Wang said.

Wu Hailong, president of China Public Diplomacy Association, said China's recently concluded "two sessions" have sparked intense international interest in the current situation and future prospects of China's economy. He noted that this roundtable meeting serves as a valuable platform for resolving doubts, facilitating deep exchanges, and offering a comprehensive understanding of China's economic development.

Yu Tao, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), said the "two sessions" have sent out significant signals about the trajectory of China's economic development. He said he hopes that, through thorough discussions and exchanges, foreign diplomats can gain a deeper understanding of the current situation and future directions of China's economy, and enhance their confidence in the growth of China's economy and the prospects of future cooperation with the country.

During the interaction session, Evgenios Kalpyris, Greek ambassador to China, said China is the driver of global economic development. He said he looks forward to hearing more from China and that the lessons from its economic development are invaluable and merit closer study.

Beate Trankmann, UNDP resident representative in China, said China has significantly improved the quality of life for its people over the past decade, according to the recent Human Development Report released by the UNDP. She said the UN hopes that China can demonstrate stronger leadership in sustainable development through developing new quality productive forces and fostering green development.

Unny Sankar Ravi Sankar, minister of economic affairs at the Malaysia Embassy in China, said the Malaysian business community is keen to gain a more comprehensive understanding of China's economic development trends so as to actively participate in and share the dividends of China's economic growth.

Co-organized by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies under CICG, China Public Diplomacy Association, and Beijing Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions, the roundtable was attended by over 20 foreign ambassadors and senior diplomats from over 10 countries and international organizations.
