International Federation of Translators sets up Asia center

The International Federation of Translators (FIT) has recently launched its fifth regional center, FIT Asia, to foster closer collaboration and communication among translation professionals and organizations in Asia. The new center was officially inaugurated during the FIT council meeting held on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

The Translators Association of China (TAC), which is affiliated with China International Communications Group (CICG), helped initiate and establish FIT Asia.

Gao Anming, vice president of CICG and executive vice president and secretary general of TAC, delivered a speech via video link at the event. As a council member of FIT, Gao offered congratulations on the establishment of the center and highlighted its role in promoting regional cooperation and development of translation in Asia.

FIT President Alison Rodriguez said that the establishment of the center was an important milestone in the development of FIT. She said she hopes that the center would uphold the spirit of cooperation and contribute to the sound development of the translation community.

The inauguration ceremony was broadcast live to members of FIT worldwide and received video congratulations from more than 10 member organizations in Asia. The participants expressed their hope for the center to create more opportunities for exchange and cooperation in the region and the world.

Established in 1953, FIT is the federation of professional associations of interpreters, translators, and terminologists. FIT Asia is the fifth regional center of FIT, following FIT Europe, FIT Latin America, FIT North America, and FIT Africa.
