Multimedia works awarded for telling Guangzhou stories

Over 60 multimedia works including photos and videos about Guangzhou city were awarded and displayed, as part of a global multimedia story collection campaign, during the 2023 Understanding China Conference (Guangzhou) on Saturday.

Co-hosted by the China Center for International Communication Development under China International Communications Group (CICG) and the Information Office of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government, the campaign attracted over 134,000 photographs and more than 1,600 video entries from over 19,000 contributors across the world. Following a rigorous selection process involving initial, secondary, and final evaluations, the awards included one Special Jury Prize, two Gold, five Silver, 10 Bronze, and 50 Excellence Awards.

Lu Cairong, vice president of CICG, said professionals working in international communication should better use visual narratives like photos and videos to convey the distinctive charm of Guangzhou and China to a global audience. He also emphasized the importance of narrating stories about the Chinese people's dedication to building a beautiful China, encouraging cultural exchanges, and contributing to a more harmonious world.

Liu Jianneng, vice director of the Information Office of Guangzhou Municipal People's Government, said that the campaign beautifully captured the essence of China, the Greater Bay Area, and Guangzhou from natural, cultural, and urban perspectives. The exhibition highlighted Guangzhou's journey towards sustainable, green, and low-carbon development, showcasing the city's contribution to the initiative of nurturing a shared community for life on Earth, he said.
