'Xi Jinping: The Governance of China' discussion event held in Sri Lanka

A discussion and exchange event on the Sinhala edition of the first volume of "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China" was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Nov. 25. Liu Dawei, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), attended and addressed the event.

In his speech, Liu noted that the book showcases the theoretical framework and practical path of Chinese-style modernization, serving as a reference for other developing countries seeking independent modernization. He also emphasized its value in helping Sri Lankans understand the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, all proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and promoting the joint efforts of the two countries to build a global community of shared future.

Bandula Gunawardana, Sri Lanka's minister of mass media and cabinet spokesperson, acknowledged China's impressive achievements under President Xi's leadership and the learning opportunities they present for Sri Lanka. He also noted that the book provides a window for Sri Lankan people to better understand initiatives like the Belt and Road.

Qi Zhenhong, China's ambassador to Sri Lanka, expressed his belief that the Sinhala version of the book can enhance local people's understanding of China's reform and opening up as well as its goal of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and also help Sri Lanka capitalize on the opportunities arising from China's high-quality development.

Ma Zhongwu, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Colombo and a translator of the book, spoke about the enriching experience in the translation process and suggested more China-Sri Lanka academic exchanges based on it to inspire new developmental strategies for Sri Lanka.

The Sinhala version of the first volume of "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China" was jointly published by CICG's Foreign Languages Press and Sarasavi Publishers in Sri Lanka in 2021.

The book has so far been translated into 39 languages and is available in 180 countries and regions.
