Experts discuss BRI contributions to South Asian development

China has secured many outstanding achievements in poverty reduction, and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has contributed significantly to South Asia's development, experts said at the China-South Asia Forum on Poverty Reduction and Development Cooperation held Wednesday in Kathmandu, capital of Nepal.

More than 100 government officials, diplomats, experts, scholars, and representatives of media outlets and international organizations from China, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and other countries attended the forum. They held in-depth discussions on Belt and Road cooperation for development in South Asia.

Liu Dawei, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), delivered a speech at the forum. He said that China and South Asian countries should work together to advance BRI cooperation, improve people's livelihoods, promote regional economic prosperity and stability, and share experience in poverty reduction and development.

He also said that CICG aims to facilitate the exchange of experience in poverty reduction between China and South Asian countries, and contribute to global poverty reduction and the building of a community of a shared future for mankind.

Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, chairman of the National Assembly of the Federal Parliament of Nepal, said that the BRI has promoted cooperation among China, Nepal, and other South Asian countries, leading to economic growth and improvement in people's livelihood in the region. He also called on China and South Asian countries to share their experience in poverty reduction and promote BRI cooperation.

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song said that China is willing to strengthen the exchange of poverty reduction experience with Nepal, explore new paths for China-Nepal poverty reduction cooperation, and enhance the well-being of the Nepalese people, with the forum serving as an important platform.

During the forum, a report titled "The Belt and Road Initiative: A Decade of Collaboration China-South Asia Cooperation and Development Report" was released, showing the achievements of China's cooperation with South Asian countries in the past decade, with focuses on fields such as poverty alleviation.

The forum also featured two thematic discussions that delved into topics such as poverty alleviation and poverty reduction cooperation. The speakers explored ways to create favorable conditions for the realization of the right to development for the poor, and discussed the significance of China's efforts in global poverty reduction and the building of a community of a shared future for mankind.

The event was jointly organized by the Center for Europe and Asia and the China International Book Trading Corporation under CICG.
