Tianjin holds book launch for city biography

A new book titled "Tianjin: The Biography" was launched in Tianjin on Monday.

The event brought together representatives from Tianjin's government agencies, media groups, and literary and arts circles. The biography is published by Foreign Languages Press under China International Communications Group (CICG), and forms part of the "Biographies of Silk Road Cities" book series.

Lu Cairong, vice president of CICG, said that the book series is a significant cultural project for promoting the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and has drawn domestic and overseas attention. 

He said that Tianjin is renowned for its rich culture and innovative drive. Having long been an important gateway and trade port, the city has pioneered China's industrialization and modernization efforts. The biography provides a comprehensive window into the city with vivid writing and pictures, he added.

Ma Bo, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Tianjin Municipal Committee, said Tianjin has actively participated in BRI international cooperation over the past decade. The book summarizes cultural exchange between Tianjin and BRI countries and regions, as well as retells the past 100 years of the city's history, serving as a cultural bridge for its international communication, Ma said. 

The "Biographies of Silk Road Cities" series is the first and only comprehensive collection of city biographies in the international publishing industry. To date, the series has included more than 60 city biographies in multiple languages.
