China-Brazil dialogue held to promote development cooperation

The 2023 China-Brazil Think Tank Dialogue on Global Development and Governance was held in Beijing on Tuesday. Officials and experts from both countries attended the event and conducted in-depth discussion on the path to modernization.

Yu Tao, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), delivered a speech. He said as China is advancing Chinese modernization while Brazil is working on the goal of re-industrialization in a concrete manner, both countries have embarked on the development path chosen by themselves and jointly promoted the cause of modernization around the world.

Both countries should facilitate trade cooperation, place great emphasis on scientific innovation, promote green development, and further deepen exchange and cooperation, Yu added.

Ivone Silva, president of the Lula Institute of Brazil, delivered a speech via video link. Silva said that Brazil highly values the comprehensive strategic partnership with China, and that she expects Brazil to conduct further cooperation with China on information technology, trade, agricultural development, and climate change. 

Centering on high-quality development to promote modernization of both countries, a collection of research papers in Chinese and Portuguese was released at the event. The papers were jointly produced by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies (ACCWS) under CICG and the Lula Institute.

Yu Yunquan, president of ACCWS, said the collection of papers was an important attempt to facilitate understanding between Chinese and Brazilian academic communities. He pledged more efforts from ACCWS to enhance cooperation with Brazilian think tanks regarding joint research, knowledge sharing as well as platform building in order to contribute to the modernization drive and development of China and Brazil.  

Elias Jabbour, a professor of the Department of Economic Sciences of the State University of Rio de Janeiro, said that Brazil should engage in the Belt and Road Initiative, facilitate exchanges between think tanks of both countries, and actively promote Brazil to better fit in the rest of the world. 

The event was jointly organized by ACCWS, China Internet Information Center under CICG, and the Lula Institute.
