4th ASEAN-China 'Friendship and Cooperation' Short Video Contest kicks off

The 4th ASEAN-China "Friendship and Cooperation" Short Video Contest was launched Thursday with the theme of "Connection for a Better Future."

This year's contest will be a competition between video entries on topics including the Belt and Road Initiative, cuisine culture, and digital life. The event aims to promote people-to-people exchange between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and deepen cooperation between the two sides through short video works in different forms and languages.

Lu Cairong, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), delivered a speech at the launch ceremony. He spoke highly of the annual short video contest and said he anticipates seeing good stories recorded by youths of the 11 countries through their cameras. Lu said CICG will work with related parties to encourage more young people to engage in cultural exchange between the two sides.

Ekkaphab Phanthavong, ASEAN's deputy secretary-general, delivered a speech via video link. Phanthavong said leaders of both China and ASEAN countries have underscored the importance of cultural exchange. He said he believes the short video contest could play an important role in promoting mutual understanding among the people, especially the youths, of both sides, and that the contest will inject new vitality into the sound development of bilateral relations.

Hou Yanqi, Chinese ambassador to ASEAN, said the contest stands as a vivid example of the close cultural exchanges between the two sides. Hou said she expects participants to further explore the charms of mutual learning among different civilizations, and present more resonant stories about the people of the two sides.

Chen Shi, director of the China Center for International Communication Development under CICG, said she expects to see more outstanding entries that inject fresh vitality into the sound development of the relations between China and ASEAN.

Since its inauguration in 2020, the short video contest has received more than 70,000 entries, presenting an array of compelling stories from the people of 11 countries about cooperation between China and ASEAN.
