China-Central Asia Human Rights Development Forum held in Beijing

The 2023 China-Central Asia Human Rights Development Forum was held in Beijing on Tuesday.

The event brought together over 100 participants from China and five Central Asian countries including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan to discuss the forum's theme of "Building the Belt and Road for Human Rights Development."

Du Zhanyuan, president of China International Communications Group (CICG), attended the event and delivered a speech. Du said mankind has a lofty ideal that everyone enjoys human rights in full. He praised the youth as a driving force for strengthening China-Central Asia ties, and encouraged them to share more stories of cultural exchange and cooperation along the Belt and Road route with the world.

Wang Guoqing, vice president of China Foundation for Human Rights Development, pointed out that it is necessary to make full use of the forum as a platform for people-to-people exchange to deepen mutual understanding among China and Central Asian countries and promote sound development of the global human rights cause.

Zhang Ming, secretary general of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), said he expects more progress to be made in China-Central Asia cooperation mechanisms to bring more tangible benefits to the people of the two sides and inject more vitality into the development of the SCO.

China-Central Asia Youth Initiative on Human Rights Development was released at the event. Six youth representatives from China and the five Central Asian countries read out the proposal together and vowed to contribute to the global human rights development. 

The forum was hosted by the China Foundation for Human Rights Development and organized by CICG Center for Europe and Asia.
