6th China-LAC dialogue held in Argentina

The Sixth Forum on China and LAC: Dialogues between Civilizations was held Monday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Themed on implementing the Global Civilization Initiative and jointly building a community with a shared future for China and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), the event brought together over 100 participants, including government officials, researchers, media representatives, and business leaders. Their discussions centered on exploring new avenues for a China-LAC relationship characterized by equality, mutual benefit, innovation, and openness to benefit people of both regions.

In his address to the forum, Liu Dawei, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), said China and the LAC region both have profound ancient civilizations. He called for joint efforts in implementing the Global Civilization Initiative, promoting cultural inclusiveness and mutual learning, and creating a model for South-South cooperation.

Liu said CICG will continue to play a bridging role by utilizing the forum to further enhance friendly exchanges and cooperation between China and the LAC region. He vowed further contributions to jointly building a community with a shared future for China and LAC countries.

Carola Ramón, vice chairperson-elect of the Argentine Council for International Relations, expressed her hope for strengthened political understanding and trust between China, Argentina, and the rest of LAC countries under the Belt and Road Initiative. She encouraged leveraging each other's economic strengths to elevate exchanges and cooperation across various sectors. Ramón also emphasized the importance of expanding people-to-people exchanges between China and LAC countries to solidify the foundation for Belt and Road development.

During the opening ceremony, the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies jointly launched the China-LAC Alliance for Development Cooperation and Knowledge Sharing with the Latin American Council of Social Sciences, the Latin American Academy of Social Sciences, and other organizations; the Center for the Americas initiated the Media and Think Tank League of China and Latin American and Caribbean Countries with its counterparts; and Blossom Press signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Ediciones Luxemburg.

The forum also featured academic discussions on ways to nurture new driving forces for China-LAC comprehensive partnerships as well as approaches to common development and knowledge sharing between China and the LAC region. A consensus was reached at the forum to jointly implement the Global Civilization Initiative, and expand bilateral exchanges on trade, culture, education, and media to solidify non-governmental foundations for friendly cooperation.
