Gao said the essays written by the participating foreign students will present a genuine picture of China and showcase China's development achievements and unique charm. He said the contest will attract more foreign students who love Chinese culture and cultivate them for cultural communication and mutual learning.

Gao also pledged that CICG will further promote the Panda Cup contest and explore new methods and approaches of international communication to engage more people to tell China's stories.

This year's contest is developed from the Panda Cup Japan Youth Essay Contest, which was launched in 2014 and has since helped to promote exchange between Chinese and foreign youths and advance mutual learning between China and the rest of the world. It's open to foreign students aged 15-35, with submissions closing on Oct. 15. Outstanding works, tutors, and college organizers will be awarded.

Attendees of the launch ceremony included Vice President of Communication University of Zhejiang Yao Zheng, foreign student representatives in China, and university teachers.
