International contest kicks off to encourage telling China's stories

The 2023 "Tell China's Stories" International Creative Communication Contest kicked off on Monday in Wenzhou, eastern China's Zhejiang province. The contest is hosted by China International Communications Group (CICG).

Du Zhanyuan, president of CICG, addressed the ceremony. He said the contest is an important event to showcase China's development in the new era as well as China's modern civilization through new media.

The contest has been held for five consecutive sessions, with 19 local sub-contests, 13 themed competitions, and two special events, Du said. More than 600 works were selected from 155,000 submissions from China, the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Russia, and other countries and regions, involving more than 50 million participants. The contest has played a positive role in helping the international community better understand China, Du added.

Gao Anming, vice president of CICG, gave a keynote speech at the launch ceremony. He suggested telling China's stories in a more effective and targeted way and leveraging new technologies to better present the stories.

Scheduled to run until the end of the year, the contest encourages participants to submit works focusing on Chinese modernization, the Global Civilization Initiative, the Belt and Road Initiative, and stories about young people in the new era, among other themes.
