Roundtable on ecological civilization held in Guizhou

A roundtable dialogue on ecological civilization was held in Guiyang, the capital city of southwestern China's Guizhou province, on Tuesday.

Diplomats from 19 countries and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization attended the dialogue and exchanged views with Chinese officials and experts on the topic of modernization and ecological development.

Yu Tao, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), said the roundtable offered a platform for countries to exchange ideas and share knowledge to respond to global ecological challenges and advance ecological development. 

Yu said he hopes diplomats at the event can gain a better understanding of China's ecological development and Guizhou's efforts in environmental protection.

Li Li, director general of Beijing Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions, spoke on the event's relevance to World Environment Day, as diplomats discussed effective ways to foster harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. 

Li said he hopes the dialogue could lead to greater consensus and cooperation on ecological development among countries.

Zhang Jingping, vice governor of Guizhou province, introduced Guizhou's work in environmental protection as well as its contribution to high-quality development. She also expressed hopes for more practical and effective cooperation with other countries and regions.

Liu Yanhua, former vice minister of science and technology, spoke about China's rapid development in renewable energy and its willingness to engage in knowledge sharing, industrial cooperation, and technological innovation for mutually beneficial progress and global sustainable development.

Wang Yi, vice chair of China's National Expert Panel on Climate Change and a member of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress, underscored China's efforts to establish a safe, resilient, and sustainable green supply chain and investment and trade system, as a crucial element of the global green transition. 

He called for global collaboration on fostering green investment models, promoting low-carbon transitions, and enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation to safeguard the global climate and biodiversity.

Paulette Bethel, ambassador of the Bahamas to China, said China is leading the global ecological development. Bethel said she would like to bring the experience she learned from China to her home country and share China's achievements with the rest of the world. 

The roundtable event was co-organized by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies under CICG and Beijing Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions.
