Chinese book center makes debut in Dominican Republic

A Chinese book center was unveiled in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, on Thursday, aiming to promote cultural exchange between China and the Dominican Republic.

Lu Cairong, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), delivered a speech via video link. 

Lu said the book center strives to deliver Chinese culture to readers in the Dominican Republic and present a truthful image of contemporary China. He said he hopes the newly established book center will help people in both countries to deepen their understanding of each other so as to promote cultural exchange between the two countries to a new height.

Chen Luning, Chinese ambassador to the Dominican Republic, attended the event and delivered a speech. He said the establishment of the book center marks another achievement of people-to-people exchange and cooperation between China and the Dominican Republic. 

The books provided by the book center will further meet local people's needs for Chinese culture and help them to better understand China in an all-round manner, Chen added.

The Chinese book center was set up by Sinolingua Press under CICG and the library of Santo Domingo Institute of Technology. CICG presented 1,000 books in Chinese, Spanish and English to the university library, covering topics from facts about contemporary China, traditional Chinese culture, Chinese literature, to Chinese-language education. 

The new book center marks the 12th establishment launched overseas by CICG.
