Seminar for African media opens in Beijing

The Seminar for Heads of the International Departments of Major Media Outlets from African Countries opened in Beijing on Wednesday, with 20 media managers and professionals from seven African countries participating.

The seminar hosted by the Institute of International Studies and Advanced Training under China International Communications Group (CICG) runs from May 10 to 23, aiming to offer African media professionals a platform to enhance their understanding of China.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the seminar, CICG Vice President Liu Dawei said media organizations play a unique role in telling Chinese and African stories, while also promoting bilateral cooperation and facilitating people-to-people exchanges. 

Liu said he hopes the seminar will help African media professionals better understand China, gain a deeper insight into the latest achievements and development opportunities of the Chinese path to modernization, and get a genuine, multi-dimensional, and panoramic view of China.

Jatin Dindoyal, principal information officer of the Prime Minister's Office of Mauritius, said the seminar provides a platform for mutual learning among Chinese and African media professionals where they can share knowledge and discuss the common challenges faced by the media industry.

In addition to lectures and exchanges, seminar participants will also visit China's northwestern province of Gansu to learn about its efforts in poverty alleviation, technological innovation, and the preservation and protection of Chinese cultural heritage.
