China-France cultural dialogue held in Paris

A cultural dialogue between China and France was held in Paris, France, on April 27. Over 50 scholars and young professionals from both countries held discussions on cultural exchange and mutual learning among the two civilizations.

Yu Tao, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), delivered a speech at the event. Yu said that CICG has stayed committed to introducing Chinese culture to the rest of the world and helping global audiences to better understand the country. 

CICG will take this dialogue as a new opportunity to further delve into Chinese culture and deepen cooperation with relevant parties of France to promote cultural exchange and enhance mutual understanding between the two countries, Yu said.

Jean-Pierre Wurtz, honorary inspector general of theatre at the French Ministry of Culture, said that opera remains an important part of cultural exchange between China and France. 

Chinese operas represented by "Mei Lanfang" and "The Legend of the White Snake" have been well received among the public in France, Wurtz said, adding that he expected to see more Chinese plays being staged in his home country.

Representatives from the fields of literature, theater, film, and television shared their insights on China-France cultural cooperation at the event. 

They agreed that the two countries share many similarities in the perception of civilization and vowed to deepen cooperation with their counterparts to enhance mutual understanding between the people of both countries. 

The dialogue is part of the activities hosted by CICG at the Foire de Paris (Paris Fair) 2023.
