FIT Council Member Gao Anming led a delegation to participate in the meeting. Gao is also the vice president and editor-in-chief of China International Communications Group (CICG), the executive vice president and secretary general of the Translators Association of China (TAC), and the chair of the Joint Committee of the Asia-Pacific Translation and Interpreting Forum (APTIF).
During the meeting, Gao participated in the discussion and voting on various issues of the FIT council, and attended the celebration of FIT's 70th anniversary. He also introduced the recent major works of the TAC and key achievements of the APTIF in recent years to the council, and submitted a proposal to set up FIT Asia.
Gao pointed out that, since its establishment in 1995, APTIF has become the most active and influential platform in the Asia-Pacific region for exchanges in the translation field. To further expand the achievements of the APTIF, over 10 translation organizations in the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and other Asian countries have agreed that the establishment of FIT Asia will help to enhance the global influence of the Asian translation community, strengthen cooperation among translation circles in Asia, and promote global translation development.
The FIT council said it fully recognizes the key role played by the APTIF and the TAC in promoting the development of regional translation industry over the years. The council agreed to establish FIT Asia and officially launched relevant work.
At the meeting, the TAC delegation held dialogues with the FIT and various translation organizations, worked to improve the global influence of the TAC and the APTIF, and sought more support for the development of the translation industry in China and throughout Asia.
