Luoyang, at the eastern end of the Silk Road, is one of the earliest cities that witnessed how the Silk Road came into being, and therefore has established a deep connection with it, said Lu Cairong, vice president of CICG, in his speech at the event.

Located at the center of China, Luoyang has distinct cultural characteristics of Chinese cities and those along the Silk Road, so information about the history and evolution of Luoyang is important for learning about the Chinese civilization, Lu said. The publication of the book is essential for presenting Luoyang to the world, enhancing cultural exchange, and promoting mutual learning among civilizations along the Silk Road, he said.

With a history spanning over 5,000 years, Luoyang was the capital city of 13 dynasties in Chinese history, and its profound culture offers a core competitive edge, said Wei Xianfeng, vice chairman of the Luoyang Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

On a sideline forum, guests also discussed the role of Luoyang in cultural exchange along the Silk Road as well as how biographies of cities can help to explore their culture and promote city image.
