Xiamen holds launch ceremony for biographical book

A new book titled "The Biography of Xiamen: A Garden on the Sea" was launched in Xiamen, southeastern China's Fujian province, on Tuesday, as part of a collection of books about cities along the Belt and Road.

The event was jointly organized by Foreign Languages Press (FLP) under China International Communications Group (CICG) and the Xiamen Federation of Literary and Art Circles. It brought together over 50 representatives from government agencies, academia, and the literature and art field.

Lu said that, as a coastal open city with wide attention, Xiamen plays a crucial role along the Belt and Road. This biographical book depicts major stories and figures in the history of Xiamen through an international perspective, fully demonstrating the charm of the city, he said. 

As this year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, the book published by FLP will help Chinese and overseas readers to learn more about Xiamen and feel the beauty and charm of the city, Lu said.

The new book is a classic work in presenting compelling stories of Xiamen, said Chen Chunyang, vice chairman of the Xiamen Federation of Literary and Art Circles. Chen said that he looks forward to seeing more excellent works that tell stories about Xiamen and help to strengthen people's spirits.

As the first urban biography of Xiamen, the authors of the book made thorough investigations and research on the history of the city and added literary polishing, making it an informative and entertaining reading material, according to its publisher FLP.
