CICG executives attend 14th China Esperanto Congress in Beijing

The 14th China Esperanto Congress with the theme of "New Era, New Mission, New Progress" was held in Beijing on Saturday, and executives of China International Communications Group (CICG) attended the biennial event.

The event was organized by the China Esperanto League under the guidance of CICG. 

CICG President Du Zhanyuan said in his speech that Esperanto is a language pursuing peace, friendship, and mutual understanding. He said the language plays an important role in enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between China and other countries, and will also play a significant role in advancing the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Du called for the China Esperanto League and the entire Esperanto community in China to tell the country's story well in Esperanto while upholding patriotism, promote exchange and mutual learning based on consensus while fulfilling their mission, and boost high-quality development by working together and pooling wisdom and strength.

Participants of the event deliberated and voted on new measures for managing the China Esperanto League's members and membership dues, and elected a new council and a new executive council. CICG Vice President Liu Dawei was elected new president of the council.

Liu said in his speech that the league will shoulder its new mission on the new journey, and plan new measures to break new ground. He added that the league will step up efforts in talent cultivation, innovation, and regulations implementation.

More than 200 representatives from 16 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions attended the opening ceremony. CICG Vice President Yu Tao, also deputy head of the league, presided over the opening ceremony.

At the event, a ceremony was held to award teams and individuals who have made important contributions to Esperanto promotion and development in 2020-2022. In addition, the first meeting of the new council was held to discuss future work plans and major tasks. Sub-forums were also held among leaders of local leagues, teachers, the youth, and representatives of the economic and trade sectors.
