Wuhan holds launch ceremony for biographical book

A new book titled "The Biography of Wuhan" was launched in Wuhan, central China's Hubei province, on Monday, as part of the collection of biographies of cities along the Belt and Road.

The event was jointly organized by Foreign Languages Press under China International Communications Group (CICG) and the Wuhan Federation of Literary and Art Circles. 

Lu Cairong, vice president of CICG, attended the event and delivered a speech.

Lu said Wuhan is of great geographic significance in national strategies such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Based on the research results of local chronicles, this new book depicts the natural beauty of Wuhan and presents the transformation of the city from an ancient trade wharf into a modern industrial hub, he said. 

This new book also demonstrates the fighting spirit of the local people in their hard work and the character of the ancient city through the stories of people's lives, Lu added.

The release of this book has opened up new horizons for Wuhan's international exchanges with the world, said Wu Chaoan, director of the Publicity Department of the Wuhan Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China. He also encouraged local writers to create more compelling stories about Wuhan.

The collection of biographies of cities along the Belt and Road is so far the first and only set of large-scale urban biography series in the world. It has gathered the stories of over 60 Chinese cities and 50 overseas cities, filling the gap in the international publishing industry.
