Roundtable on China's economic outlook held in Beijing

A roundtable dialogue on the theme of China's economic outlook was held in Beijing on Tuesday, featuring renowned experts offering their analysis on the country's economic policies.

Over 30 senior diplomats and representatives of international organizations from 18 countries and regions attended the dialogue and exchanged views with the experts on China's economic development and the prospects for international cooperation.

Gao Anming, vice president of China International Communications Group (CICG), said China's economy enjoys strong resilience, enormous potential, and great vitality, and the fundamentals sustaining its long-term growth remain unchanged. Gao noted that, as China optimizes its COVID response, its economy is bound to enter a new stage of development, which will provide strong support for world economic recovery.

Zhu Min, former deputy governor of the People's Bank of China and former deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund, said the year 2023 will witness China's strong economic rebound, underpinned by a potential pickup in domestic demand, a highly efficient and low-cost manufacturing supply chain, a booming green economy, and other favorable factors. Zhu said he anticipates an over 5% growth rate for the country's economy.

Zhang Yansheng, chief researcher at the China Center for International Economic Exchanges and former secretary-general of the Academic Committee of China's National Development and Reform Commission, said the Chinese path to modernization will provide more development opportunities for the world, and create vast space for win-win cooperation and common prosperity around the world.

China is confident in its ability to maintain long-term growth, fend off risks, and follow the opening-up policies for win-win cooperation, said Zhang Xiaojing, director of the Institute of Finance and Banking at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Xu Hejian, director of the information office of the Beijing municipal government, introduced the city's new policies and practices in boosting growth at the event. He said Beijing is a dual Olympic city that champions green, innovative, and harmonious development, and that he hopes the diplomats in attendance can join him in witnessing its booming development.

Diplomats attending the event thanked the organizers for providing a platform for face-to-face dialogue, which helped them to understand China's economic policies.

The roundtable was co-organized by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies under CICG, the Beijing Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions, the information department of the Beijing municipal government, and the Center for International Security and Strategy of Tsinghua University. It has become a regular event facilitating talks between foreign diplomats and Chinese officials and experts.
