The preparatory committee of the China-Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Alliance for Development Cooperation and Knowledge Sharing held its second meeting Sunday, aiming to take concrete measures to implement the development and action plan for the China-LAC alliance.

Yu Yunquan, president of the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies (ACCWS) under China International Communications Group, said that developing countries have borne the brunt of profound changes unseen in a century and the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as increasing global uncertainties and instabilities. Facing common challenges, development and cooperation should be the new focus and direction for China-LAC cooperation, he said.

Yu said that, by setting up the China-LAC alliance, he hopes to attract media outlets, universities, think tanks, companies, and social organizations from both sides to build a multilateral cooperation platform together to promote the convergence of development strategies of both sides, operationalize the Global Development Initiative in LAC countries, and contribute to the building of a China-LAC community with a shared future.

Participants of the meeting proposed holding the first China-LAC Development and Cooperation Forum in 2023, in order to share development opportunities and promote the common and sustainable development of the two sides.
