CICG, May 12, 2022

China International Communications Group (CICG) and the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on April 21, 2021, to cooperate on professional training for international communication, translation and interpretation testing, and research and teaching of translation.

"CICG and the MIIS have established a comprehensive partnership through years of cooperation," said Lu Cairong, CICG vice president, adding that"the MoU can help to better leverage the advantages of both sides and enhance cooperation, allowing the two sides to pursue shared development on the basis of complementarity, and contributing to deepening mutual understanding as well as people-to-people exchanges between China and the U.S."

According to Jeff Dayton-Johnson, vice president for academic affairs of Middlebury College and dean of the MIIS,"the cooperation between the MIIS and CICG is of vital importance. CICG offers internships for students at the MIIS, which will help them to deepen their understanding of China. And visiting scholar programs provided by the MIIS will offer CICG staff opportunities to further develop their language and translation expertise."

Since 2004, CICG has been cooperating with the MIIS in the training of translators and interpreters in various areas. For example, the MIIS has provided tailored training courses for CICG, while CICG has selected members of staff to visit and study at the MIIS. CICG has also invited professors from the MIIS to give lectures on translation and interpreting, and the CICG Institute of International Studies and Advanced Training has been responsible for administering the Advanced Entry Examination of the MIIS in northern China.

The MIIS is one of the foremost institutes of language and international policy studies in the U.S. The Graduate School of Translation, Interpretation and Language Education at the MIIS is renowned as one of the top three schools for translation and interpreting studies around the world.
