'All the Way North' wins Golden Angel award

China.org.cn, November 12, 2021

A Chinese documentary about a wild Asian elephant herd in Yunnan province won the Golden Angel award at the 17th Chinese American TV Festival (CATV) on Nov. 5.

"All the Way North" won the Chinese Cultural Communication Award at the CATV held both in-person in Los Angeles and online. The short documentary was produced by China Review Studio under the China Center for International Communication Development (CCICD), a division of China International Communications Group (CICG), along with video streaming website Youku and the forest fire department under China's Ministry of Emergency Management.

After 17 months, the wild Asian elephant herd eventually returned to its natural habitat in August 2021. The herd had previously travelled northward from Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve and wandered more than 1,300 kilometers, spanning more than half the territories of Yunnan province. Their movement had attracted worldwide attention.

As the first in-depth investigative documentary film focusing on the wild elephant herd in Yunnan,"All the Way North" records the herd’s long journey during this time. The film not only explores the issue of ecological protection, but also demonstrates China's efforts and achievements in eco-environmental governance to international audiences.

The Chinese American Film Festival and Chinese American TV Festival are organized by EDI Media Inc. The festivals are the most authoritative and influential annual Chinese American cultural events connecting two of the world's largest film and TV markets. They have joint support from the State Council Information Office of China, the National Radio and Television Administration of China, the Consulate-General of China in Los Angeles, and the government of the County of Los Angeles.
